UMNO and PAS will avoid contesting in the same seats in Selangor in the 15th general election (GE15) as they want to oust Pakatan Harapan (PH), said state Umno chief Noh Omar.

Both parties have discussed seat allocation in the state even before Perikatan Nasional (PN) was formed, he added.

“If Umno contests in a parliamentary seat, then PAS gets a state seat and vice versa, to avoid clashes between the two parties,” he told a press conference in Tanjung Karang, Selangor, today.

Umno and PAS are aiming to win at least 30 of the 56 state seats in Selangor with this strategy, he added.

Noh said he hopes both parties’ top leaderships will agree with this arrangement.

Selangor PAS commissioner Ahmad Yunus Hairi said in the state, the enemy of Umno and PAS is PH.

“GE14 showed that both parties have their voter bases. If we display this commonality and unity, we can topple PH. Three-cornered fights will take us nowhere.”

On whether PAS is prepared to clash with Bersatu in Selangor, he said this is for the top leadership to decide.
