THE highly anticipated debate between former prime minister Najib Razak and opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim will now take place at the Malaysian Tourism Centre (Matic) on May 12.

It was previously announced that the discourse was to be held at Dewan Tunku Canselor, Universiti Malaya.

The announcement was made in a joint statement by Najib and Anwar’s offices.

“Both parties have agreed to choose Matic Kuala Lumpur as the location of the debate on May 12, at 9pm.

“The debate will be streamed live via official TV channels as well as various media channels that will be announced soon,” the statement read.

The debate will cover three areas: Sapura Energy Bhd’s financial woes, whether it needs to be saved, and the country’s economy, politics and administration.

Sapura Energy, a government-linked company, had announced a loss of RM8.9 billion last year, which Najib said was the largest in history for such an entity. It is his view that the government should bail out the company.

The opposition said the money could be put to better use. – May 6, 2022.
