PKR deputy presidential candidate Rafizi Ramli said party members must decide if they want a leader who is fighter or a negotiator in the general election.
Rafizi, who is up against party secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail for the number 2 post, said his opponent preferred to negotiate than to fight.
“If you want PKR to continue negotiating with other parties, choose Saifuddin, but if you want to enter GE15 in fighting mode, to campaign, to steal votes from Umno, Barisan Nasional (BN), and Perikatan Nasional (PN), if you are fired up because of we were betrayed, then you need a fighter like me,” the former Pandan MP said in Perak yesterday on the PKR elections campaign trail.
PKR is electing its national leadership next month.
Rafizi, who is an appointed PKR vice-president, recently announced his return from a political hiatus.
He has spoken up against the “big tent” idea promoted by several Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders, who advocate negotiations with other parties, including Bersatu, as a general election strategy.
“In war, you must choose the right general. For GE15, party members have the right to choose which general to lead us as the leadership will set the rhythm and pace for the general election,” said Rafizi
Rafizi and Saifuddin are the two candidates vying for the deputy presidency, which has been vacant since Mohamed Azmin Ali was sacked for his role in the ousting of the PH government in 2020.
Rafizi added that party members must pick the right leaders if they want to win the general election.
“Going to war is not a matter of liking or disliking a certain candidate, but about choosing a general who can shoot the enemy. If you choose a general who is no good, he will die alongside us on the battlefield.”
GE15 must be held by July 2023 but there is speculation it could be held sooner. – April 25, 2022.
