A DEAD Indonesian man, whose left leg was chained to a chair, was found in the car park of an apartment building in Jelutong, George Town, Penang, yesterday.

Timur Laut police chief Soffian Santong said residents found the blood-stained body at about 5.40pm.

“Based on initial investigation, the victim, 33, and a local man, 52, shared a rented unit, which has been turned into a homestay since April 13.

“A delivery rider, who is also a witness, said he sent meals to the apartment every day at 1pm and 5pm, with the last delivery made at 5pm yesterday.”

He said the body has been sent to Penang Hospital for an autopsy slated for Monday.

The motive is still unknown, and police are tracking down the housemate to assist in the investigation, he added.

He said police did not find any sign of struggle in the unit and are still investigating the reason behind the men’s stay in Penang.

“We found the victim’s passport. He is from Dumai, Indonesia, and believed to have entered the country on March 23.

“We are (still) tracing the man who lives with him as we believe he knows about the incident.”

Police have classified the case as sudden death pending the post-mortem report, he added.

The victim is believed to have fallen from the eighth floor, and suffered injuries to the head and body. – Bernama, April 23, 2022.
