THE MySejahtera application is not solely for the purpose of check-ins but has other modules that are pertinent to epidemic control, Health Minister Khairy Jamaludin told the Dewan Negara today.

Khairy was responding to questions about how long the MySejahtera app needs to be used, especially with the country moving into the transition to endemic Covid-19 phase tomorrow.

“The Health Ministry (MOH) is of the view that there is a need to continue using the app,” he told the senate during his winding-up speech.

“To date, 20 million notifications have been sent to the users of the app. There were 17 million home isolation and self-evaluation orders as well.

“For MySJ Trace, there are 7.1 million users. About 54,444 individuals who tested positive uploaded this information to the app and 173,274 close contacts were identified.

“Two billion reports have also been received via the app through the home assessment tool while 80 million RTK-Antigen test results were uploaded into MySejahtera.”

The home assessment tool is particularly important now because more than 97% of those who test positive are under home isolation, he said.

“The MOH needs an app to monitor them. Some have no symptoms, some have light symptoms but there are those who deteriorate while at home,” he said.

“Through the home assessment tool on the app, you can see who is not doing well and needs to be hospitalised or taken to a quarantine centre. We want to reduce the number of bought in dead.”

Now that the country is in transition, the app will be used for travellers entering Malaysia, including for verification of vaccine certificates and Covid-19 protocols and procedures, he said.

“MySejahtera has proved to ease and help control the epidemic. The ministry is of the view that there is still a need to use the app during the transition phase.”

The decision whether or not to continue using the check-in function will, however, be determined in a few weeks’ time, he said.

MySejahtera was introduced on April 20, 2020 with only three modules. It now has 15 modules. The app has also been downloaded more than 38 million times.

Questions about the ownership, management and data stored in the app made headlines recently.
