PAS’ warning to Loh Siew Hong on her judicial review application to challenge her children’s conversion to Islam amounts to judicial interference, said Loh’s lawyer A. Srimurugan.
His comment comes after PAS information chief Khairil Nizam Khirudin warned those trying to convert the children out of Islam.
“Muslims in this country will unite to safeguard their religion (aqidah),” he said in a post on Facebook, without saying what the consequences are.
Loh is seeking, among others, a declaration that her ex-husband did not have the legal capacity to register their children as converts without her consent.
Srimurugan said any form of threat, expressed or implied, or warning discouraging a litigant from pursuing his or her legal rights in court amounts to serious interference with the administration of justice and constitutes criminal contempt of court.
“We condemn any form of intimidation, pressure or smear campaign against Loh.
“We urge all parties to refrain from making any statement pertaining to the case as it may incite hatred and cause unnecessary tension among various races in the country.”
He also discouraged religious figures from making any comment or producing any video pertaining to the case.
“We hope that this case will not be politicised and the legal process will be allowed to take its course.
“We believe in the legal process and place our trust in the judiciary to amicably resolve the dispute between the parties.”
Loh recently reunited with her 14-year-old twin daughters and 10-year-old son after trying to locate them following her separation and divorce from ex-husband M. Nagahswaran, who is currently jailed in Kelantan.
She later found out that her children were converted without her consent and placed in a welfare home in Perlis. – March 29, 2022.
