FOOD supply is sufficient in flood-affected areas in Kelantan, and there is no report of panic buying, said the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry.

State ministry enforcement chief Azanizam Affendi Juri said the ministry is constantly monitoring the situation with appointed suppliers to ensure goods are adequately stocked.

“The Natural Disaster Contingency Plan established prior to this, especially for floods, is the benchmark for the supply of goods in the state.

“So far, all 99 wholesalers and 225 appointed retailers have not been affected by the floods.”

The ministry has appointed 41 wholesalers and 53 retailers in each constituency in preparation for the disaster, and they are allowed to stock up controlled items in excess of 30% of the license limit.

“Those appointed have a role to provide buffer stock to the state ministry in the event that floods worsen,” said Azanizam Affendi.

The ministry regularly engages with government agencies and industries for coordination purposes, especially with regard to supplies for flood-affected areas, he added. – Bernama, February 27, 2022.
