THE role of women in education should not be taken lightly as according to Islam, a mother is her child’s ‘first school’, said Raja Puan Muda of Perlis Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.

She said for a country to progress, women must be given access to education.

“Educated women’s participation is important as they are seen to complement the efforts in developing the country.”

“Taking into account the changing world environment, rising competition and globalisation, various efforts must be taken to equip Malaysian women with skills and knowledge to enable them to fulfill their family responsibilities and have a fulfilling career,” she said in statement issued by Yayasan Tuanku Fauziah today.

Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen, who is also YTF chairman, said this yesterday at the closing of the “Women in Search of Excellence” (WISE) webinar series themed “The Role of Women in Improving the Quality of Education” organised by the Institute of Teacher Education, Perlis campus in collaboration with YTF.

She said genderism or sexism and stereotyping that limit women’s abilities and rights to education should be eradicated.

She said today, women have succeeded in proving their skills not only in the field of education, but also in economics, politics and other fields.

“Women have the right to education. Educational opportunities must be given to all, regardless of gender so that these individuals can further develop their potential and have the opportunity to contribute as productive and virtuous citizens,” she said. – Bernama, February 24, 2022.
