THE Alor Gajah CID chief is the latest member of the police force to be picked up by the Malaysia Anti Corruption Commission (MACC).

He is also the second CID chief in custody in what appears to be a statewide corruption probe.

The 51-year-old officer with the rank of assistant superintendent was picked up from his office in Malacca at 10.45am and brought to MACC headquarters in Putrajaya for questioning.

MACC chief commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad confirmed the arrest.

It is understood that the suspect will be remanded tomorrow to assist in the probe.

This comes after MACC’s arrest of the Melaka Tengah and Jasin district police chiefs and the Melaka Tengah CID chief. 

The four, along with nine others, have been picked up in a swoop by MACC officers investigating police personel allegedly collecting protection money from operators of illegal massage parlours and gambling dens in the state.

The anti-graft body has so far seized RM1.44 million from the suspects’ homes and bank accounts in its Malacca operation.

Of the total, RM800,000 was from the storeroom in a house of a police corporal, and RM79,000 from the Melaka Tengah district police chief’s home. 

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar earlier today said a major reshuffling will take place in the Malacca police contingent.

For now, 15 police personnel in the Malacca contingent have been subjected to an internal reshuffling exercise.

More actions will be taken soon, Khalid said.

Khalid will meet his men in Malacca on Friday in his first working visit since the MACC arrests last week.
