THE Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has rejected a representation submitted the family of former Tabung Haji chairman Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim attempting to stave off the government suit to seize RM16 million in assets allegedly obtained though unlawful activities.

Deputy public prosecutor Nik Haslinie Hashim said the AGC replied to the family on Friday.

“Today is set for case management on the representation, which has been rejected by the AGC,” he said during the proceedings before High Court Judge Muhammad Jamil Hussin.

Lawyer Prem Ramachandran, representing Abdul Azeez’s family, confirmed receipt of the letter.

Jamil ordered both parties to file their written submissions by mid-May and set Jun 21 for hearing the case.

The government is applying to seize almost RM16 million from the accounts belonging to Abdul Azeez’s wife Khadijah Mohd Noor, their four children – Mohamed Khairul Anwar, Mohamed Khairul Azman, Khaleeda Azwa, Khaleeda Azeera – and also shop lot in Bandar Sunway, which is owned by their company, Azeera Management Consultants (M) Sdn Bhd.

On December 18, 2021, the court dismissed the family’s application to stay the case, pending the outcome of Azeez’s corruption trial at the Sessions Court.

Azeez denies three counts of accepting bribes amounting to RM5.2 million for road projects in Perak and Kedah and 10 counts of laundering RM13.9 million, allegedly received from Menuju Asas Sdn Bhd.

This trial has been postponed pending his appeal to have the case dismissed. – Bernama, February 8, 2022.
