Keluarga Malaysia – are we practising it?

BELOW are some excerpts from a few Friday khutbah from theJabatan Agama Wilayah Persekutuan (Jawi) since September 2021 related to the subject of Keluarga Malaysia. I am sure Muslims in Wilayah Persekutuan would have heard them, especially folk in the seat of government in Putrajaya.

Let’s see what you have to say after reading the excerpts.

Title: “Sow the family spirit, FT will be covered with goodness”

The teachings of Islam emphasise very much on preserving good relations between human beings. The Federal Territories (FT) Day 2022, with the theme “Malaysian Family”, emphasises on the prosperity and comfort of each Malaysian Family, especially for those within the FT, to be shared fairly in enjoying standards of living which should include the economy, welfare and development, irrespective of religion or race.

The concept of helping one another is very much required in the syariat of Islam. The spirit of togetherness and integration among the plural society within the FT must be fostered. This is in line with the ‘Malaysian Family’ concept that emphasises on the importance and comfort of the people being taken care of, as if they are within one big family.

All parties, be they the people or leaders must work together.

Title: “The Nation’s Prosperity A Collective Responsibility”

Among the biggest responsibilities commanded by Allah SWT upon all His servants is to help one another in matters that concern righteousness and awareness of the Lord, and not to assist one another in matters that concern sin and evil.

In the context of a multiracial society, good understanding and high tolerance within the community are the main factors that would ensure stability, harmony and prosperity. Strength should be built based on the understanding and cooperation at all levels of society.

As a nation, we face continued challenges, from the economy, politics, social, health, security, border incursions, money laundering and so on, if not curbed well and wisely, would serve as hindrances to the process of harmony and unity-building. Malaysia should be known not only as a nation that is prosperous, but also as a nation of multi-religious, multi-racial and multi-cultural make-up and be the example for the world to follow.

Each member of the society has a role to play in preserving the stability and prosperity of this nation. Remember that we shall be held accountable in the Hereafter for such responsibilities.

Islam teaches us to value and to be grateful for those who have given and contributed much to us. Therefore, let us be united and work together.

Title: “Similarities Among Differences”

Allah SWT has commanded Muslims to be united as a strong Ummah, be it spiritually or physically, and to foster strong relations with all mankind for the sake of helping one another.

Mankind is a big family originating from the same set of parents, (Adam and Hawa). Thereafter, spread across the earth with various wants and needs. But each requires the another. Al-Quran has iterated the relationship between mankind based on the concept of a big family.

Remembering the history of our nation’s independence and the formation of our nation should enable us to have the feeling of gratitude towards Allah SWT and thankfulness to our forefathers. All races and communities were together in fighting against the colonialists, even though having differing ideologies, but still shared one common belief.  This is the point that became the uniting factor.

We should not let our brothers be in a situation where they continue to argue. Our faith shall not be complete if we do not love another person of the same faith as much as we love ourselves. Letting the dispute go on without any effort to resolve it will only lead to destruction.

Therefore, let us unite based on common grounds and have the Malaysian Family spirit. Let us always come to discuss with wisdom in order to seek the truth on all areas that we differ in.

Now, given the above excerpts, it seems only the rakyat of all races listen to all the Khutbah as shown in the recent floods and the pandemic.

Do you think the politicians listen or understand the khutbah with regard to the 2022 Budget, statements made by politicians, the new norm of holding separate state elections and three former prime ministers (all originally from the same party) trade barbs on social media?

That being the case, will they lead us to move forward or backwards and stuck with mediocrity and above all, where do they put God in their daily dealings? I have not touched on corruption which I will in the next article.

What say you… – February 6, 2022.
