12 more landslides reported, 10 in KL alone

THE Minerals and Geoscience Department has reported another 12 landslides, of which 10 occurred in Kuala Lumpur, one in Selangor and one in Negri Sembilan.

The National Disaster Management Agency in a statement today said the new reports push the number of landslides that occurred during the current northeast monsoon period to 262.

Disaster incidents were reported at 965 roads in 10 states throughout the current monsoon period as of 10am, according to the Public Works Department.

This included floods (423), flash floods (62), slope collapses (447), road collapses (23), road subsidence (5), and collapsed and/or damaged bridges (5).

The Meteorological Department has not issued any continuous rain warning as of 2pm, but issued four thunderstorm alerts for Sabah and Sarawak.

“Although no continuous rain is forecast in the near future, thunderstorms can still occur nationwide, especially in Sabah and Sarawak,” said the agency.

It also announced that up to 10am, 1,038 (98%) of the 1,062 flood-affected communication infrastructures have been repaired. – Bernama, January 6, 2022.
