A FIVE-YEAR-OLD boy died yesterday from suspected abuse at home in Nusa Bestari, near Iskandar Puteri.

Iskandar Puteri district police chief Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said police were informed of the case about 12.20pm by a Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) staffer after the boy was sent to the hospital by his mother.

“Examination of the boy found injuries in the mouth, bruises on the front and back of his body, believed to be due to abuse.

“Preliminary investigation found that the victim was living with his mother and her lover, as well as a younger sibling and an older sister,” Dzulkhairi said in a statement today.

He said that the boy was believed to have died while on the way to the hospital and that a post-mortem would be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.

He said police had detained the boy’s mother and her boyfriend, both 35, for investigation,while the victim’s two siblings were sent to HSA for medical examination.

Both the suspects have a record for child abuse and drug offences, he added. – Bernama, December 4, 2021.
