DR Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali has been dropped as patron of Wheelchair Tennis Malaysia, a position she had held for over 20 years.

The committee passed a resolution in its annual general meeting recently to expel the wife of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the association’s patron.

“Mum told us when she was chatting with us after her session with the cops. She got a letter from the wheelchair tennis association asking her to withdraw as patron as per their resolution. She said ok,” Dr Siti Hasmah’s daughter, Marina Mahathir told The Malaysian Insight today.

She said she did not know why or when the association decided to ask her mother to withdraw as patron.

“Must have been recently… they passed a resolution at their AGM,” Marina said.

This development comes after Dr Siti Hasmah was quizzed by the police on Friday for speaking at a women’s rally late last year.

She had given a short speech while standing on the back of a pick-up truck to some 1,000 women dressed in purple, who marched from the Maju Junction shopping mall to Pertama Complex in the city centre.

Dr Siti Hasmah, 91, had urged women to oppose “toxic politics”, including injustice against women, political violence, the use of threats, racism, sexism, hate speech, abuse of the law and disregard for the federal constitution. – January 28, 2018.

  • Something just feel out of control in Najib's UMNO. If they say he is "supremely confident", where is the venom coming from? It's supremely idiotic and/or out of control or Its sign Najib is "supremely" nervous.

  • Tun Hasmah need to exit all these petty dedak-recipient organisations before given the boot just like Tun M smartly did. How low can you go already when you're on wheelchair?
