72 new Covid deaths, all backlog cases

MALAYSIA recorded 72 new coronavirus deaths yesterday, a slight increase from the 63 fatalities the  day before, the Health Ministry reported.

Data from the ministry’s Git.hub raw data repository showed the deaths were backlog cases, meaning no deaths occurred yesterday.

Of the total, nine were classified dead on arrival.

The daily death figure is the sum total of the number of reported deaths on the day plus cases just confirmed by the health authorities to be due to Covid-19 after investigation.

With the new fatalities, the Covid-19 death toll in Malaysia stood at 27,993.

Johor recorded the most deaths with 18, followed by Sarawak (13), and Kedah (9).

Other states and territories that logged deaths linked to the virus were Perlis (1), Malacca, Pahang and Selangor (2), Terengganu, Kuala Lumpur and Perak (3), Kelantan (4), Sabah (5), Penang (7).

Labuan, Putrajaya and Negri Sembilan did not report any deaths.

Malaysia’s active cases continued to drop, to 89,173.

Of these, 679 patients were treated in intensive care units, 347 of them on ventilator support.

Meanwhile, 68,612 patients were in home quarantine; 12,935 in low-risk quarantine centres; and  6,947 were hospitalised.

Total recoveries number 2.27 million, 8,435 of which were reported yesterday. – October 19, 2021.
