AS many as 115,516, or 67%, of the 172,155 Orang Asli who are eligible to get the Covid-19 jab have been vaccinated, said Rural Development Minister Mahdzir Khalid today.

The others are still waiting for the opportunity to be vaccinated, he added.

“It is hard to reach them (Orang Asli) due to their remote dwellings, but we will continue with the outreach programme to vaccinate them,” he told reporters at the National Sports Day celebration in Putrajaya today.

Mahdzir said his ministry will ensure the remaining 56,639 Orang Asli who are eligible for vaccination will get their jabs as soon as possible.

It is also looking to modify Mara Liner Sdn Bhd express buses into mobile vaccination centres to travel to Orang Asli villages in Perak, Pahang and Kelantan, he added.

He said the use of the single-dose CanSino shot will speed up the vaccination rate of the Orang Asli community.

To date, about 10% of the Orang Asli who have been vaccinated received the CanSino shot. – Bernama, October 9, 2021.
