YOUTH and Sports Minister Ahmad Faizal Azumu was paid a salary of RM27,227.20 a month as a special adviser to former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin, it was revealed in the Dewan Rakyat today.

In a written reply to Lim Lip Eng (Kepong-PH), Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that Faizal was paid pro rata due to his short stint.

“Given that he served less than one month, his salary of RM27,227.20 was prorated and he was given replacement for termination of service notice with one month’s salary.

“This is not a position with a pension,” he said.

On August 5, Faizal, who is the Bersatu deputy president, was appointed as a special adviser to Muhyiddin with ministerial rank.

At the time, Muhyiddin said the former Perak menteri besar would advise him on matters relating to community affairs and socio-economic development.

Faizal’s tenure lasted all of 11 days until the downfall of the Muhyiddin government on August 16.

In his time as the special adviser, Faizal was entrusted to create close ties between the government and community leaders, improve the people’s understanding of government policies through effective communication channels, as well as improve the government delivery system from the socio-economic aspects, Ismail said. – September 15, 2021.
