LIM Guan Eng’s office today dismissed “false accusations” that he had breached quarantine rules by going out in public while under self-isolation after possible contact with a Covid-19 case.

The DAP secretary-general was identified as a possible close contact of a positive Covid-19 case after attending the Penang legislative assembly meeting on September 1. He was only informed of this on September 2.

“Lim has also been falsely accused of going out in public to distribute food parcels to his constituents on the 2nd, 4th and 8th, September in his Facebook posts. This is untrue,” his office said.

“Lim had not gone out to the public to distribute food parcels after September 2. The Facebook posts of food parcel distribution were done on or before August 31 in his Bagan parliamentary constituency.”

The Bagan MP had remained under home quarantine after attending the state assembly meeting on September 2 and had subsequently tested negative.

“The Health Ministry officially issued a home self-quarantine order on September 6. It was to run from September 1 to 10, where Lim was required to wear the pink wristband.”

The office said DAP elected representatives Phee Boon Poh, Soon Lip Chee and Sateesh Muniandy who were present with Lim, as well as the aid recipients, can also attest to the food parcel distribution being done on or before August 31.

They added that the Facebook posts of food parcel distributions were made not on the same day but several days after the event.

Gerakan Youth lodged a police report yesterday against the former Penang chief minister for allegedly violating his home quarantine order.

Penang Gerakan Youth spokesman Mohd Aswaad Jaafar questioned how Lim could attend the Penang legislative assembly meeting on September 2 when he was ordered to self-quarantine as he was a close contact of a Covid-19 patient.

“According to his lawyer, Lim needed to undergo self-quarantine from September 1 to September 10, and could not attend his trial today. But why was he able to attend the assembly meeting on September 2,” Mohd Aswaad had said. – September 9, 2021.
