65.9% adults fully vaccinated against Covid

HEALTH authorities administered 369,280 shots of Covid-19 vaccines yesterday, taking the total number of fully vaccinated adults to 15,429,300, or 65.9%.

The special committee for Covid-19 vaccine access said 181,635 people received their first dose yesterday, and 187,645 others received their second.

Data showed 20,115,233 million people, or 85.9% of the adult population, have received a first shot.

Labuan has the highest rate of full vaccination with 63,663 people, 92.9% of its adult population, having received two doses.

The Klang Valley has seen the highest number of doses dispensed, with 6.9 million first and 5.7 million second jabs.

More than 90% of the adult population have been vaccinated in the region, the committee said.

In total, more than 35 million doses of vaccines have been administered since February 24.

Yesterday, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the government expected 80% of the population to be vaccinated by the end of October,  by which time Covid-19 would be endemic in the country.

He also said he was considering making vaccination mandatory with exceptions only for people with medical conditions. – September 3, 2021.
