Mahfuz apologises to Pahang sultan, regent

MAHFUZ Omar has apologised to the Pahang sultan and regent over his speech at a recent ceramah if was seen as offensive by the palace.

The Independent Pokok Sena MP’s apology comes after the regent, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, said today he was “angry and offended” over the insult Mahfuz hurled at his father, and the circulation on social media of a video recording of his father in his bedchamber.

He said Mahfuz had breached discipline by having allegedly insulted Sultan Ahmad Shah of Pahang at a political talk.

“I had no intention of insulting or belittling the sultan of Pahang during my ceramah. I was only speaking about Dr Mahathir and how age should not be used to reject him as the candidate for prime minister,” he told the Malaysian Insight today.

Mahfuz said he had used the Sultan of Pahang to show that although he was ailing and advanced in age he continued to reign.

Following Mahfuz remarks at the ceremah, several police reports have been lodged.

Pahang Umno Youth had wanted Mahfuz to be investigated under the Sedition Act and apologise to the state ruler. – January 17, 2018.
