Pahang regent ‘angry’ over insults thrown at father

THE Regent of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, said today he was “angry and offended” over the insult hurled at his father Sultan Ahmad Shah of Pahang, and the circulation on social media of a video recording of his father in his bedchamber.

He said Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar had breached discipline by having allegedly insulted Sultan Ahmad Shah at a political talk.

“I do not want to say anything much but if we are to listen to the (Mahfuz’s) speech (that went viral on social media), he has breached discipline.

“We, as Malays, are taught to respect the elders, more so rulers … so don’t do anything unacceptable,” he said after visiting victims of a fire at the Sungai Isap 2 settlement near Kuantan.

On the viral video footage of Sultan Ahmad Shah in his bedchamber, Tengku Abdullah said it was recorded during the sultan’s birthday and had become public.

He said he became all the more offended because the video was recorded by someone who was in the palace, and this made him want action to be taken against the person.

“I do not want to say anything much (about Mahfuz and the viral video footage). I believe an investigation has begun because many police reports have been lodged by NGOs. I leave it to the authorities (to handle the matter),” he said.

Tengku Abdullah also expressed disappointment over what he said was the improper conduct of certain individuals who had been bestowed with Pahang titles, such as Datuk Seri and Datuk.

He said that if there had been a violation of ethics, he wanted the relevant committee to take the appropriate action.

By right, he said, the awards could be withdrawn but it would be more proper for them to return the titles.

“We do not want to penalise anyone, but then they have done wrong,” he said. – Bernama, January 17, 2018.
