THE Perikatan Nasional (PN) government revoked all of the emergency ordinances as it is afraid of facing the vote in the Dewan Rakyat, former Prime Minister Najib Razak said.

This meant that all the compounds exceeding RM1,000 that were issued and the government’s usage of funds from the National Trust Fund, also known as KWAN, were no longer valid as of last week, he said.

Earlier today, de facto Law Minister Takiyuddin Hassan said in parliament that the government had on July 21 cancelled the ordinances passed during the declaration of emergency.

“The PN government thought that if the ordinances were cancelled, then they will not have to be debated, voted, and passed in parliament,”

“They are so afraid of the vote in the Dewan Rakyat,” the Pekan MP said in his Facebook post today.

He said no one was informed of the revocation of the ordinances, which was apparently in effect last week, nor were there any gazettes to that effect.

The Pekan MP also questioned why the cancellation of the state of emergency was backdated, seeing as the Agong and the Malay Rulers had decreed that the ordinances should be debated, voted and passed in Parliament.

“Have they gotten the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong’s consent to cancel the emergency ordinances prematurely?” he asked.

“The government has not answered if they were given consent despite being asked several times,” Najib said.

The Emergency was supposed to be in effect until August 1.

He also questioned how motions can be tabled or the Budget 2022 was going to be passed, given that the government has opted for such a move.

Takiyuddin said all the six ordinances passed during the emergency were revoked, effective July 21.

“The government has decided to cancel all the emergency ordinances made during the Emergency Proclamation. As such, the issue of annulment is no longer relevant,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat today.

“The government has also decided not to advise Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to issue a new declaration when this one expires on August 1,” said the Kota Baru MP. – July 26, 2021.
