13,034 new Covid-19 cases today, second highest on record

MALAYSIA reported 13,034 new Covid-19 cases today, the second time fresh infections have breached 13,000.

The country reported 13,215 cases on July 15, which was also the highest daily record to date.

Selangor and Kuala Lumpur again led the tally, with 6,049 and 1,611 cases today, respectively.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Selangor now has a cumulative total of 343,946 cases, out of the total national caseload of 964,918.

After the Klang Valley, Johor is the third highest state with 791 cases.

Other states to report new cases are Negri Sembilan with 711 cases, Kedah (701), Sarawak (644), Sabah (497), Terengganu (391), Penang (371), Malacca (353), Perak (284), Pahang (261), Kelantan (240) and Putrajaya (100).

Labuan recorded 24 cases, while Perlis was the only state to report single-digit cases of two infections.

Meanwhile, elaborating on the 13,034 new cases today, Noor Hisham said only 0.65% of the cases were from a combination of Categories 4 and 5, while 93.35% of the cases reported were between Categories 1 and 3.

On the breakdown, he said that 7,179 cases were under Category 1 (asymptomatic), 5,646 cases under Category 2 (mild symptoms), 124 cases under Category 3 (pneumonia), 72 cases under Category 4 (pneumonia and require oxygen support) and 13 cases under Category 5 (those in critical condition and in need of respiratory assistance through ventilation).

Meanwhile, a total of 446,052 doses of Covid-19 vaccines were administered yesterday, the special committee for ensuring access to Covid-19 vaccine supply (JKJAV) said today.

With the latest figure, 10.5 million or 32.4% of the total population have now received their first dose of the vaccine, while the remaining 4.9 million or 15.1% of the population have been fully vaccinated. β€“ July 22, 2021.
