NAJIB Razak has questioned the veracity of a statement supposedly from Barisan Nasional (BN) lawmakers expressing their support for Prime Minister (PM) Muhyiddin Yassin.

Writing on his social media today, Najib said he was also a BN lawmaker and was not part of the group as stated in the statement who supported Muhyiddin.

“When did I agree to go against the Umno Supreme Council decision made yesterday (to retract support for Muhyiddin)?

“Who has the list of all the BN lawmakers as mentioned in the statement?” said the Pekan MP.

Earlier today in an unsigned statement supposedly from BN lawmakers, they said they would continue to support the Perikatan Nasional government and Muhyiddin as the PM.

They said this was following the decision made in the Umno supreme council meeting last night not to tie its lawmakers to the party’s decision.

The document, which also had no letterhead, said all BN lawmakers wanted to ensure the National Recovery Plan was realised to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic.

“At a time when the nation is facing health and economic crises, it is more important to solve the people’s woes than being involved in a political game.

“As such, we support Muhyiddin as the PM to continue the people’s agenda,” they said.

There are 42 BN lawmakers presently with 38 coming from Umno and four others from BN component parties – MCA (2), MIC and PBRS have one seat each.

Last night, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party had withdrawn its support for Muhyiddin with immediate effect.

Zahid, who is also BN chairman, said a new interim PM should be appointed until the country tackles the Covid-19 pandemic and achieves herd immunity through vaccination.

Najib was among those who supported Zahid’s call for Muhyiddin to be replaced. – July 8, 2021.
