DESPITE his capability, Azmin Ali was not picked as Pakatan Harapan’s choice for prime minister designate as the Selangor menteri besar did not have the support of all four pact members, Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today.
The former prime minister said one must not only have the capability but must also be chosen.
Dr Mahathir had earlier attended the Vision 2020 forum in Cyberjaya, where he spent three hours talking and sharing ideas with participants.
Dr Mahathir told the crowd that Vision 2020 will not be achieved as the current government had a different idea of what a developed nation should be.
“It (is) not just in the increase of earnings but in the improvement of several sectors like research and development and many other things,” he said.
He added if PH wins the next general election, Vision 2020 has to be extended by a few more years but not until the year 2050.
“I think it can be achieved before 2050. But in order for me to implement your suggestions and to make changes, first I have to form the government and the only way is through winning the election,” he said.
He urged those present to cast their votes when the election comes and make a difference in the country.
Dr Mahathir was officially announced as Pakatan Harapan’s prime minister candidate during its convention on January 7.
The decision was widely mocked by Barisan Nasional leaders and rejected by certain quarters of the opposition, who feel the Bersatu chairman does not represent their agenda for reform. – January 13, 2018.
