If PAS wins 40 seats in GE14, it can 'control' BN and Pakatan, says Hadi

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang says if his party wins 40 seats in the next general election, it will be in a position to make demands of Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, January 13, 2018.

ABDUL Hadi Awang has envisaged a kingmaker role for the Islamist party if Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan don’t secure an outright majority at the 14th general election.

The PAS president said if the party won 40 seats, the Islamist party would be in a position to make demands.

There are 222 parliamentary seats

Hadi appeared to base his calculation on the remaining 182 seats being divided evenly between BN and PH, but it is unlikely that both parties would acquire the simple 112-seat majority to form a government.

“If PAS can get 40 parliamentary seats, other parties wouldn’t be able to form a government without depending on our 40 seats, and this means we will be needed to form the federal government,” he told party organ Harakah Daily during a function yesterday.

In the last election, the Islamist party won 21 parliamentary seats when it was part of the now defunct Pakatan Rakyat.

It has since left the pact and is now actively promoting its own pact, Gagasan Sejathera, and going it alone at the coming polls.

The pact is looking at fielding candidates in 132 seats. – January 13, 2018.

  • Why 132 seats go for 222 seats try to get 112 seats to run the country. NO BODY IS STOPPING HADI.

    • If they were to go for all the seats, they will face a wipe out so bad that they need all the help from their God.

  • THIS is what happens when you do not do mathematic. Hadi do not know high school conditional probability lesson. AND he has the audacity to tell Mahathir to read more????

  • Hadi’s expectation to win 40 seats sounds strange. Acting as suicide bombers for Umno, the only winner could only be Umno, if at all the latter can win.
Looking at the massive haul by PAS in GE 12 and GE 13, the main reason for its harvest was the overwhelming Chinese support. Now that the latter has become extinct, PAS has to vacate all these seats with the possible exception of a few in Kelantan and Terengganu; and even that is suspect, as there will be three-cornered fights there this time, causing a distinct possibility of a clean wipe-out.
Hadi seems to continue to talk in dream land, but the real tragedy is that PAS, as one of the largest and oldest political party which had shown such great promise as a major player to rebuild the country from the ashes left over by Umno in the last 2 elections, should soon come to such miserable end.

  • A simple analysis already confirms PAS will lose every seat in any three corner fight. So, how to win 40 seats?!?!

  • Hadi must be high and dreamming in the 1000 nights of make believe Arabian nights of estacy. Well he can only reach his deluded orgasm when he is in control of both BN and PH. How to arrive when YOU say Yes!!! but RAKYAT say NO! NO! NOooooo!!!!!!!. Well dream on unless Almighty catches some strains of your drift.!!!!!!!!!!!!! but I can betcha you are already forsaken

  • "...The PAS president said if the party won 40 seats, ..."

Methinks the PAS president is deluded!!

Even with the help of DAP and PKR in GE13, PAS only managed 21 seats.

And now with PAS all on its lonesome, the president thinks that PAS can win 40 seats??

    Is this fellow on ketum?

I am just surprised that Hadi Awang does not predict that PAS will win all 222 seats!!
