THE Selangor DAP convention slated for this Sunday has been postponed due to the total lockdown order, said Anthony Loke.

In a press statement, the national organising secretary said the convention will be held later on a suitable date and the Selangor DAP committee will inform delegates through notices.

The country is in total lockdown until June 14.

In an earlier report before the total lockdown, Loke had said the party was trying to postpone its national congress due to the then movement-control order (MCO), which was to end on Monday and had restricted any form of meetings and gatherings.

He said an official letter was submitted to the Home Ministry and the Registrar of Societies director-general on May 17 and hoped that the request would be allowed until the MCO is relaxed and interstate travel is permitted.

“DAP’s national congress is scheduled to be held on June 20 and notifications have been sent to all DAP branches nationwide. There is also a possibility that the MCO will be extended, making it difficult for the congress to be held on the set date,” he was reported as saying.

So far, 10 state DAP committees have held their conventions between mid-March and early May while ordinary state conventions for Sarawak, Sabah, the Federal Territory of Labuan, Perlis and Selangor had yet to be held. – June 4, 2021.
