WHILE noting that DAP has faced such allegations in the past, Hannah Yeoh said the timing of Dr Kamarul Yusoff’s posting is questionable as it was published the same day that Jakarta Governor Ahok was sentenced to two years in prison for blasphemy.

Yeoh, in a statement, said that as a practising Christian, she believed in the rule of law, justice, transparency, accountability, fairness and good governance.

“And all of these can be reflected in the legislative reforms I have pursued as an assemblyman and Speaker of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly,” said Yeoh.

She said she also rejected corruption and abuse of power.

Universiti Utara Malaysia senior lecturer Kamarul had in a Facebook posting on May 10 used Yeoh as an example and accused DAP of hypocrisy, saying that the party only cared about separating religion from politics if it involves Islam.

“… for DAP, separation of politics from religion should only be done if it is about Islamic matters. But if it involves other religions such as Christianity then they (DAP) are okay,” wrote Kamarul.

He also noted that Yeoh had urged other Christians to join politics to improve Malaysia.

The post was shared 260 times.

Yeoh released her statement shortly after lodging a police report on the post.

As for her book Becoming Hannah, she said there was no secret agenda as the soft launch was in 2014 and official launch in January 2015. The book can be bought online and is available in major bookstores such as Kinokuniya, MPH, Popular and Times.

“This book records my personal journey as a young Malaysian and documents my marriage story and new role as wife and mother. This is why it is called Becoming Hannah and not Becoming DAP or Becoming a Christian,” she said.

“DAP’s commitment is to a secular state as defined under the Federal Constitution of Malaysia. The DAP has a Malaysian agenda, not a Christian one,” she said.

Kamarul’s post prompted Mingguan Utusan to use the pseudonym Awang Selamat to highlight the matter to its readers. The editorial was placed together with an editorial hoping that Malaysia emulated Indonesia by taking action against former Jakarta governor Ahok.

The Umno-owned newspaper said: “Awang thinks that Hannah’s admission is serious and touches the sensitivity of religion because Islam is the official religion of the federation”.

It, however, did not explain why the admission was serious or what it had to do with Islam’s position in the country.

Meanwhile, Kamarul admitted to putting up the post and said he was willing to give a statement to the police.

“I can confirm that I was the writer and take full responsibility for my writing. I have no problems giving a statement to any party including police or go to court if necessary,” he said.

He added that he has evidence about Yeoh’s Christianisation agenda in politics. – May 15, 2017.

  • Muslims, Christians, Buddhists and Hindus had been living harmoniously together in this blessed land of ours for so many generations. It's only in the last few years that fascist islamists started rearing their ugly heads, unleashing their venomous, divisive and sectarian version of Islam imported from Saudi Arabia, the land of Wahhabism and Salafism where once Christianity thrived but today no non-Muslim places of worship are allowed to exist. These Islamist fascists are truly enemies of peace loving Malaysians who value their pluralism - not that twisted "pluralism" as defined those fascists, but a plural society that makes Malaysia truly a unique nation admired by world over.

And remember this above all, these fascist Islamists are allowed to exist because of UMNO. They are an UMNO tool to stay in power indefinitely. UMNO certainly do not care Malaysia is torn apart as long as they can loot and steal from hard working citizens for eternity.
