Covid-19 cases back up to more than 3,000

For the tenth straight day, Selangor tops the daily cases chart, taking 1,200 of the 3,418 new Covid-19 cases in the country. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Nazir Sufari, May 2, 2021.

JUST a day after recording less than 3,000 daily Covid-19 cases, Malaysia crossed the line again today by recording 3,418 fresh infections in the past 24-hours, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The director-general of health said Selangor logged the bulk of today’s cases with 1,200 infections, followed by Sarawak with 587, and Kelantan with 400.

This would be the 10th straight day that Selangor has topped the daily cases chart by state.

Besides this, Selangor also tops overall cases by state with 134,849 cases, followed by Sabah with 58,315 cases and Johor rounding the top three with 45,900 cases.

Cumulative cases in the country now stands at 415,012.

A total of 2,698 patients recovered and were discharged from hospital today, taking the overall recoveries count to 383,140.

Of these, 345 are admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 175 of them require breathing assistance.

Besides this, Noor Hisham said that 12 deaths – all involving locals – were reported today, taking the death toll to 1,533.

Three deaths were reported in Kelantan, two each in Negri Sembilan, Johor and Sarawak and one each in Perak, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

Of the three deaths in Sarawak, two were brought in dead to the hospital.

All the victims today had underlying medical conditions with high blood pressure, a common disease among all. – May 2, 2021.
