EMCO at Perak rubber glove factory, construction site


A GLOVE factory, its workers’ quarters and a construction site in Perak will be placed under an enhanced movement-control order (EMCO) from tomorrow, said Ismail Sabri Yaakob after a drastic spike in Covid-19 cases.

The senior minister said the Central Medicare quarters, factory and the construction site in Hilir Perak will be under lockdown until March 7. 

He said the Health Ministry has screened 1,966 people and 185 were positive for the coronavirus from the two places. 

“After conducting risk assessments with various agencies, and on the advice of the MoH, the government has agreed to implement the EMCO,” said Ismail Sabri today in his statement. 

He said the EMCO will help the ministry screen some 2,808 Malaysian and foreign workers in the area. 

Today, after seven straight days of reporting cases in the range of 2,000, Malaysia logged 3,297 new Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours. 

Perak reported 1,215 cases today, followed by Selangor with 868 and Johor with 431.  

Two deaths each were reported in Selangor and Terengganu while one was reported in Kuala Lumpur. 

All six new Covid-19 clusters identified today were linked to workplaces.
