Covid-19 vaccine makes long-awaited landing at KLIA

THE first batch of Covid-19 vaccine arrived on a special flight today at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang.

Flight MH604, bearing the Jalur Gemilang, landed at 10.07am with the 312,390 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

The shipment was transported on Airbus 330-300, operated by MAB Kargo Sdn Bhd (MASkargo), the cargo arm of national carrier Malaysia Airlines.

Health Minister Dr Adham Baba, coordinating minister for the national Covid-19 immunisation programme Khairy Jamaluddin and Transport Minister Dr Wee Ka Siong were at the airport to receive the vaccine.

Upon landing, the shots were placed into the unit load device (ULD) in a DHL lorry.The lorry was then escorted by police to the designated storage location.

The logistics for the vaccine’s journey to Malaysia from the Pfizer plant in Belgium was managed by DHL.

The vaccine left Puurs and transited at the Leipzig Halle Airport in Germany before continuing its journey to Singapore for distribution to Asia-Pacific countries, including Malaysia. – Bernama, February 21, 2021.
