Primary schools to reopen on March 1, says minister

SCHOOL for primary students will resume on March 1, while secondary students will go back to the classroom on April 4, said Education Minister Mohd Radzi Md Jidin.

He said classes for standard 1 and 2 will start on March 1 while classes for standard 3 to 6 will start on March 8.

“Classes for standard 1 and 2 starts on March 1 because we want the teachers and students to get used to the standard operating procedure,” he said at a press conference today. 

As for secondary schools, he said classes in Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terangganu will open on April 1 while for the rest of the country the students will start classes on April 5.

He said vocational colleges will reopen on March 1, while international schools will resume on March 8.

Radzi said that private schools will resume on March 1, while schools for secondary students will start on April 4 and 5.  

He said private school classes for standard 1 and 2 will start on March 1 while classes for standard 3 to 6 will start on March 8.

On the SPM examinations, which are to start on Monday, he said that there are SOP in place. 

“There are also alternative rooms for students who exhibit symptoms and transit rooms for those waiting in between exams.

“Strict SOP will be in place as they sit for their examinations.”

He also advised the schools to ensure that there are also proper SOP for when schools end and students leave the compound.
