FOREIGNERS in Malaysia will receive free Covid-19 vaccines, says Putrajaya.

“The cabinet met yesterday and has agreed to include all foreigners residing in Malaysia in the National Covid-19 Immunisation programme,” said the special committee on Covid-19 vaccination (JKJAV) in a statement today.

The decision was made based on the following factors:

  1. A Covid-19-free environment can only be achieved when as many Malaysians as possible are vaccinated.
  2. The giving of vaccines to all during a pandemic is humane.
  3. High number of infections come from foreigners.
  4. The costs for treatment and quarantine is even higher than vaccination.
  5. Foreigners are part of the society that contribute to the Malaysian economy.
  6. Other countries are also vaccinating Malaysians who are residing in their countries.

JKJAV said the cabinet decision will make it easier to vaccinate everyone.

“Malaysians, however, will be given the first priority,” said JKJAV.

“This decision is also in line with the government’s plan to vaccinate as many as possible so that Malaysia can achieve herd immunity.”

It added that the vaccination schedule will be announced soon. – February 11, 2021.
