1MDB trial continues today after 4-month delay

AFTER a delay of four months, the corruption trial of former prime minister Najib Razak will continue in the High Court in Kuala Lumpur this morning.

Najib, 67, is accused of four counts of abusing his position to obtain bribes amounting to RM2.3 billion from 1MDB funds and 21 charges of money laundering involving the same amount.

The trial before Judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah will continue with the 10th prosecution witness, former 1MDB chief executive officer Mohd Hazem Abdul Rahman, who will be cross-examined by counsel Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, leading the defence team.

Hazem, 47, began testifying on September 14, 2020.

The court set January 4-7, January 25-27; February 2-4, February 8-11, February 15-18; April 5-8, April 19-22, April 26-28; May 3-6, May 17-20, May 24-27; June 1-3, June 8-10, June 21-24, June 28-30; and July 5-8 to hear the case. – Bernama, January 5, 2020.
