THE Ministry of Health has advised the government to extend the recovery movement control order (RMCO) following a high number of Covid-19 cases across the country, Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.

The RMCO was supposed to end yesterday but in a statement released today Ismail Sabri said the RMCO has been extended for another three months until March 31.

At the same time, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Sabah are all under conditional MCO until January 14.

“A high number of daily cases were found across the country, due to the government’s order for all foreign workers to be tested.

“Under the RMCO, night clubs are prohibited except those with restaurants on the premises.

“Tourism activities must adhere to the SOP set by the Ministry of Tourism, while the public must keep social distancing, wash their hands and to avoid crowded areas,” he said.

Late last night, Health Minister Dr Adham Baba said Putrajaya has renewed the RMCO for three more months until the end of March as the Covid-19 epidemic continues unabated.

He said this meant the domestic and international tourism sector remained closed, as are bars and nightclubs, while activities that preclude physical distancing were prohibited.

He said these measures were permitted under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within Infected Local Areas) (No. 9) Regulations 2020. – January 1, 2021.
