Pub, nightclub arrests top RMCO offences

POLICE yesterday arrested 523 individuals over various offences and for failing to comply with health SOPs, including 356 at pubs and nightclubs, Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.

He said of the 523 arrested, 482 were issued compounds while 40 were remanded.

“Among the RMCO offences include activities in pubs or nightclubs (356), failing to adhere to physical distancing (105), not using a mask (38), failing to prepare adequate equipment to record customers’ details (20) and arrests of illegal immigrants (4),” he said in a statement today.

The police are leading the task force set up by the government to check on SOP compliance among the public.

A total of 45,847 checks were made yesterday, involving 11,244 officers.

Ismail said the authorities also mounted 98 roadblocks nationwide and arrested 75 illegal immigrants.

He said that the government will take stern action against those trying to enter the country illegally and that enforcement agencies will continue tightening border controls, especially illegal routes, or rat trails. – September 27, 2020.
