THE national recovery movement-control order (RMCO), which expired yesterday, is renewed for three more months until March as the coronavirus epidemic continues unabated.
Health Minister Dr Adham Baba said this means the domestic and international tourism sector remains closed as do bars and nightclubs while activities that preclude physical distancing are prohibited.
He said these measures were allowed under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within Infected Local Areas) (No. 9) Regulations 2020.
“These regulations are effective for the period January 1 to March 31, 2021,” he said today in a statement issued by the National Security Council.
People in areas under the conditional MCO are compelled to obey the orders of the authorities in regard to their movements and activities, he said.
“Those who violate the rules can be fined up to RM1,000, jailed for up to six months, or both.”
Yesterday the country reported a record 2,525 new Covid-19 cases while active cases have reached 23,598.
Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob is expected to announce the extension of the RMCO today. – January 1, 2021.
