A ROADMAP will be drawn up as part of recovery measures for Sabah’s tourism sector in anticipation of the post-pandemic period, said the State Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Joniston Bangkuai.

In a statement, Joniston said this was decided during the inaugural Sabah Tourism Recovery Committee meeting he chaired at the Sabah Tourism Board today.

“The formulation of the roadmap has been agreed upon during today’s meeting with industry captains in Sabah,” he said.

Among others, the roadmap is aimed at protecting jobs and businesses through incentives, tariffs and discounts.

Importantly, it would be drawn up in parallel with the 3R concept set out by the government – recovery, revitalise and reform, he added.

According to him, the industry players also requested an inclusive relief assistance so that it reached the targeted group.

“Also discussed was the need for the reskilling and upskilling for the various tourism workers to be facilitated online during this partial lockdown,” said Bangkuai.

The industry captains also agreed for domestic tourism to be boosted in green zones in Sabah.

Also suggested was the possibility of introducing a green accreditation for all tourism and hospitality outlets in Sabah as a measure to allow the reopening of their businesses.

All inputs would be forwarded to the state government, he said. – Bernama, November 11, 2020.
