PAS has thrown down the gauntlet in Selangor as they will not negotiate seats with other parties in the state during the next elections.

Newly appointed PAS Selangor chief Sallehen Mukhyi said they will contest up to 45 Selangor state seats in the 14th general election as compared with 20 seats in the last general election.

“If the Syura Council decides to cut ties with PKR, there is no need for us to discuss with them, we will contest the seats that we have targeted for,” he was quoted as saying in Utusan Online.

Sallehen also shot down speculations that the state administration is in chaos, saying that PAS executive councillors (excos) will continue their duties as usual, not unlike when the Islamist party cut ties with DAP previously.

“The state administration is still running at par. PAS had previously cut ties with DAP but the state administration was still running normally,” the Sabak assemblyman said.

In a recent report by The Malaysian Insight, state backbenchers were firm in holding their stance, choosing not to switch parties.

The source of the speculation is unclear but it started just after PAS leaders signalled their intentions at their party congress last weekend to end ties with PKR.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang fuelled the talk of a coup against the state government by saying anything was possible. β€“ May 10, 2017.
