TWENTY-FIVE opposition lawmakers have filed motions of no-confidence against Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, reported Free Malaysia Today.

Among the MPs who have put in their dissatisfaction over the top leadership are Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng, from DAP, and Tawau MP Christina Liew, who is Sabah PKR chief.

According to the order paper sighted by the news portal, there are a total of 62 motions submitted by opposition MPs and government backbenchers.

When contacted, Lim told The Malaysian Insight that he had filed his motion on October 16.

“We hope the speaker (Azhar Azizan Harun) will push it up the order list,” he said.

Other similar motions have also come from all 11 MPs from Amanah, seven from Warisan and five from Pejuang.

Parliament will convene for its last meeting this year on November 2.

On October 16, all five lawmakers from Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s party, Pejuang, individually filed a motion of no confidence against Muhyiddin, citing he had lost the confidence of the house.

This is the former prime minister’s second motion after his first one in May did not see the light of day in Dewan Rakyat.

The other Pejuang lawmakers have also followed suit in submitting motions of no confidence.

Since their party has yet to be registered, these lawmakers are considered independents.

Pejuang member Maszlee Malik said the decision to file the motions was decided in a meeting because of Muhyiddin’s failure to handle the Covid-19 pandemic as well over doubts if he commands majority support in Dewan Rakyat.

All five lawmakers said their motions should be allowed under the standing orders section 26(1) read together with section 27(3).

Muhyiddin’s position also looks shaky following claims by PKR president Anwar Ibrahim that he has the support of the majority to form a new government. – October 29, 2020.
