PRIME Minister Muhyiddin Yassin will not make any announcements or telecasts following his two-hour meeting with the Yang-Pertuan Agong in Kuantan.

“There will be no announcement tonight. If there is any we will inform the media,” said a source.

Muhyiddin met with the king in Kuantan with several ministers, after the cabinet had decided in favour of an emergency, amid political instability and the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Seems like a done deal,” said the source privy to the three-hour special cabinet meeting in Putrajaya this morning.

“They just need to repackage the word ‘emergency’ so that the public won’t panic. They won’t call it ‘darurat’ but will give it a new name. Something for Covid-19,” said the source.

The move comes amid political uncertainty after opposition Anwar Ibrahim had announced that he had the numbers to form a new Federal government.

However, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, after initially appearing to back Anwar, this week said the Malay party will continue to back the Perikatan Nasional government.

Parliament is set to sit on November 2 and Budget 2021 will be tabled on November 6. – October 23, 2020.
