POLICE have submitted investigation papers into audio clips of high-profile people conspiring to fabricate information related to 1Malaysia Development Berhad scandal to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC).

The clips were released by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in January, when Latheefa Koya was chief, that featured the voices of former prime minister Najib Razak, his wife Rosmah Mansor and former MACC chief Dzulkifli Ahmad, among others.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Takiyuddin Hassan in a parliamentary written reply said the papers were sent to the AGC on June 19 for advice and further instruction.

He also said MACC had the discretionary power under the law to release the audio recordings.

The de-facto law minister was replying to Noh Omar (Tg Karang-Barisan Nasional) who asked if the MACC had acted professionally and with credibility in releasing the clips.

Noh said in doing so, MACC had stirred speculation and negative sentiments towards the individuals in the recordings.

Nine clips of phone conversations between January and July 2016 were released by MACC in January this year.

Among others, they revealed that Dzulkifli had leaked information from the AGC to Najib about impending charges for corruption.

Dzulkifli was then a deputy public prosecutor with the chambers.

Another clip was of Rosmah speaking to Najib, with her shouting “Can I advise you something?” when expressing frustration over then MACC chief Abu Kassim Mohamed’s statements on the 1MDB probe.

In other clips, Najib is heard trying to make arrangements and asking for personal favours from UAE Crown Prince Mohammed Zayed Al Nahyan and Mubadala Development Co managing director Khaldoon Al Mubarak, about a loan for his stepson Riza Aziz.

MACC had submitted the audio clips to the police, but Latheefa resigned as chief commissioner in March after the change in government. – August 14, 2020.
