A BARISAN Nasional victory in tomorrow’s Chini by-election will be another great example of PAS-Umno cooperation, said Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

The PAS deputy president said there have been many instances of the parties’ leaders coming together to back the BN candidate.

“This was seen when Pekan PAS deputy head Mohd Fadhil Noor Abdul Karim, previously the party’s pick for Chini, proposed a BN candidate,” he told a Muafakat Nasional ceramah in Bandar Dara Chini, near Pekan, yesterday.

Among the Umno leaders present were deputy president Mohamad Hasan, secretary-general Ahmad Maslan, information chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan and Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dasuki. PAS’ youth wing chief, Khairil Nizam Khirudin, attended.

Also at the event were Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, who is also BN’s by-election director, polls operations director and Pekan MP Najib Razak, BN secretary-general Annuar Musa, MCA president Wee Ka Siong and BN candidate Mohd Sharim Md Zain.

Tuan Ibrahim said the PAS machinery has cooperated in every campaign event for Sharim.

“This shows that the leaders of both parties (PAS and Umno) put the people’s interests first.”

He said the two parties, which have teamed up under the Muafakat Nasional banner, are committed to having the 15th general election be a straight fight between the ruling Perikatan Nasional and opposition.

Mohamad, meanwhile, urged Chini voters to double BN’s majority in tomorrow’s contest.

“This is the first by-election since PN’s formation, and we want the kind of figures that we can use as a reference for future by-elections.”

The Pahang state seat will see a three-way fight between Sharim, 41, and independents Tengku Zainul Hisham Tengku Hussin, 64, and Mohd Shukri Mohd Ramli, 49.

The vote was called following the death of BN rep Abu Bakar Harun on May 7. – Bernama, July 3, 2020.
