THE defence in the corruption case involving former Federal Territories minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor closed its case today after calling four witnesses.

Following which, High Court judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan set September 11 to hear oral submissions from both parties.

He also ordered them to file their written submissions by August 14 and the reply by September 4.

Tengku Adnan, also known as Ku Nan, 69, was represented by Tan Hock Chuan, with Julia Ibrahim prosecuting.

Tengku Adnan was charged in his capacity as Federal Territories minister to having accepted a RM2 million Hong Leong Islamic Bank cheque from businessman Chai Kin Kong, director of Aset Kayamas Sdn Bhd (AKSB), which was later deposited into the CIMB Bank account of Ku Nan’s Tadmansori Holdings Sdn Bhd, when it was known that Aset Kayamas had connection with his official duties.

The prosecution alleges the offence took place at the Pusat Bandar Damansara branch of CIMB Bank Berhad, Kuala Lumpur, on June 14, 2016.

Ku Nan was charged under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison term of up to two years or a fine, or both, if convicted.

On October 14, 2019, the High Court ordered him to enter his defence on the charge.

Tengku Adnan chose to testify under oath from the witness stand when the defence proceedings commenced on January 17, completing his testimony on March 5. – Bernama, June 30, 2020.
