Man remanded for allegedly punching cop at Johor roadblock

A PILLION rider has been arrested for allegedly shouting obscenities at and punching a policeman when asked to produce proof of permission to undertake interstate travel near Mersing.

The incident occurred at a roadblock at Km1 of Jalan Endau-Rompin yesterday.

Mersing district police chief Cyril Edward Nuing, in a statement, said the 29-year-old Pahang man has been remanded for four days, starting today, to facilitate investigations under Sections 332 and 186 of the Penal Code.

“The incident happened about 5pm yesterday. Officers on duty at the roadblock stopped two men riding a Honda EX5 motorcycle.

“When asked to produce their MyKad and the permit for interstate travel, the pillion rider suddenly hurled obscene words at one of the cops and punched him.”

He said an altercation broke out when police tried to arrest the man, resulting in one officer sustaining injuries to the right eye. – Bernama, June 6, 2020.
