MOHD Redzuan Yusof, a minister in Muhyiddin Yassin’s cabinet, has admitted to meeting Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday amid Bersatu’s deepening crisis.

According to Berita Harian, Redzuan denied meeting the former prime minister to discuss leaving the Perikatan Nasional government.

Redzuan is part of the Bersatu faction aligned with president Muhyiddin, while Dr Mahathir leads a rival group seeking to wrest control of the party.

Members of Dr Mahathir’s camp, who side with Pakatan Harapan, insist that they are legitimate office-holders.

The meeting yesterday took place a day after Dr Mahathir and four other MPs had their Bersatu memberships “stopped” for sitting with the opposition during the May 18 Parliament meeting.

“I met Dr Mahathir at YKP (Perdana Leadership Foundation) about 9am. I met him after receiving special permission to do so from the National Security Council, as I’ve tested negative for Covid-19,” Redzuan was quoted as saying.

He had been told to undergo 14 days of self-quarantine after attending a meeting where an officer present later tested positive for the virus.

“It was a normal meeting (with Dr Mahathir), a visit in conjunction with Aidilfitri. We are old friends, we didn’t talk about politics,” said Redzuan, who was entrepreneur and cooperatives development minister in the PH cabinet.

“I asked him to together, as old friends, help Muhyiddin rebuild the country, which has been ravaged by Covid-19. Dr Mahathir responded positively.

“It’s not true that I’m leaving PN. Not true. Those are just rumours by people with vested interests who want to tarnish my name.”

It was reported that the Alor Gajah MP would announce his exit from Bersatu in a press conference at the party headquarters yesterday. He later denied calling a presser.

Redzuan was among the 30 MPs who followed Muhyiddin when the latter took Bersatu out of PH in February, triggering the pact’s collapse.

Muhyiddin’s faction went on to form PN with Umno, PAS, Gabungan Parti Sarawak and former PKR lawmakers.

Redzuan said he will continue working with Muhyiddin to rebuild the country post-pandemic.

“The prime minister has done very well, and he is working hard to repair the economy.

“I will also continue to do so, and use legal means to correct what’s not right. That is all the prime minister’s decision. We need to stand behind him.” – May 30, 2020.

  • What a joke you a Minister was ordered under quarantine and took a drive out to meet Tun, do you fully understand the term quarantine is?? To PDRM now that a full Minister has admitted he cross the line would there be any called for him to made a statement but by his admission I guess its justify to issue him a summon and a jail term right?? or is it going to be the case of one sets of rules for us the RAKYAT and another sets of rules for Minister & Ex-Minister which also covers their immediate family such as a daughter of an Indon origin former kayu Minister - PDRM we are waiting for your statement and action on this.

  • How can resigning your ministry be tarnishing your name. Rather, it would redeem it. But I doubt you read MI and only listen to the rest of the crooked bunch in PN.
