THE old town market in Jalan Othman, Petaling Jaya, will be closed for at least five days after one of its traders tested positive for Covid-19, the second market in Selangor affected by the coronavirus.

Deputy mayor Johary Anuar told The Malaysian Insight that there was one positive case detected in the premises.

“The market at the (Petaling Jaya) old town has been ordered to close at least another five days, starting today.”

This follows pasar Taman Megah, which was shuttered yesterday after a vegetable seller tested positive.

Johary said traders at the Taman Megah market will be screened from 9am tomorrow while the traders at the Jalan Othman market will undergo tests from 9am on Wednesday.

The screenings will take place at the market.

“Traders at the fish section of (pasar Jalan Othman) are requested to be present.”

Those who came into contact with the traders at the Jalan Othman wet market from April 5 to 18 and Taman Megah market from April 11 to 25 are urged to get tested at the Kelana Jaya SS6 and Taman Medan clinics.

There are 578 traders at the Jalan Othman wet market, with 21 from the seafood section.

Last week, the Selayang wholesale market was shut down for four days and reopened on Friday.

Another wholesale market, Pasar Borong Harian, also in Selayang was closed on April 21 and remains shut.

Eight parcels of land surrounding the market was placed under an enhanced movement-control order until May 3.

About 15,000 residents and workers will be screened for Covid-19, said Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa. – April 27, 2020.

  • Such cases are going to be cropping up more often in many of these kinds of places. It reflects inadequate testing. Our efforts while laudable are still not enough and we have a long road ahead to get to a 'new normal'.
