THERE should be no discrimination in the distribution of aid for those who are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, said Anwar Ibrahim.

The PKR president said several opposition constituencies had yet to receive food aid promised by the government.

“So, for the minister ( Women and Family Development Minister Rina Harun) to say that the government has given (aid) to all…, but we have a list of the areas where they still have not got food.

“This is very hard to accept. People are in dire straits. They are having difficulties to survive and we have promised that we will give (aid),” he said on Facebook live today. 

Rina today said no one was overlooked in the government’s distribution of aid.

She said more than 260,000 food baskets and various other assistance had been handed out since the movement control order came into force.

Rina said the distribution was conducted via 108 Social Welfare Department offices throughout the country. 

Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh said at least 54 opposition constituencies had yet to receive the promised food aid.

The Port Dickson MP said they had given out aid in his constituency but neither he nor the assemblymen were informed. 

“They appoint a coordinator from Bersatu that we don’t know. 

“No need to use our position for political mileage.”

He also said there are politicians who are giving out aid, but it’s all from the government and not personally from them. 

“The all want to make a name by giving out government aid. 

Anwar said he didn’t want to make this an issue as long as the aid reaches the people.

“Let’s just focus on the Covid-19 pandemic and the plight of the people.
