ALL of Masjid India and its surrounding areas have been placed under an enhanced movement control order (Emco), making it the fifth zone in the country to be locked down as efforts continue to curb the spread of Covid-19, said Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The order is effective today until April 28.

The lockdown order for three buildings in the area -– Menara City One, Selangor Mansion and Malayan Mansion – is also extended by two more weeks.

“Areas under the Emco include Jalan Munshi Abdullah, Jalan Dang Wangi, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Tun Perak, Jalan Melaka and Jalan Ampang.”

“We advise the residents in the area to remain calm and cooperate with officials from the Health Ministry,” Ismail said during a daily press conference in Putrajaya.

Ismail said the decision was made on the advice of Health Minister Dr Adham Baba.

Ismail Sabri said the Emco for two areas in Kluang, Johor, will also be extended until April 28, the same day the nationwide movement control order is due to expire.

The Kluang areas under Emco are Kg Dato’ Ibrahim Majid and Bandar Baharu Dato’ Ibrahim Majid in Simpang Renggam, which were locked down on March 26 following an outbreak of Covid-19.

“There has been an increase in positive cases in the two villages in Simpang Renggam and therefore we decided to extend the Emco period,” Ismail Sabri said.

Nationwide, there were 134 new cases yesterday, bringing the total to 4,817. One death was reported, taking the toll to 77.

Of the total infections, 2,464 are active cases whereby the patients are in isolation and being treated. – April 14, 2020.
