THE federal government has not made a final decision on whether Ramadan bazaars should proceed this year, senior minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.

“This is under Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Federal Territories Ministry.

“There has been no formal discussion on the matter at government level, nor has it been raised to the inter-ministerial committee on Covid-19.

“We will look at the pros and cons of it and get the input of the Health Ministry on whether bazaars should continue or not,” he told the daily press conference on Covid-19 security measures in Putrajaya today.

Ismail Sabri, who is defence minister, was asked if the government will make a streamlined decision on Ramadan bazaars ahead of the fasting month that begins on April 23.

To date, three states – Negri Sembilan, Selangor and Terengganu – have ordered a halt to all such bazaars to prevent further Covid-19 infections.

Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa has said a decision is still pending as he is due to meet with local authorities and receive input from the Health Ministry tomorrow. – April 2, 2020.
